@groggycl Thanks. I thought it would be a more effective message to show this, especially how quickly it can happen.
It’s easier to use tools safely if you know what the dangers are. It seems that too many operators don’t realize that long sleeves are a real hazard. This is based on how many YouTube videos I’ve seen that show guys wearing long sleeves and gloves while cutting on a table saw.

I lost my sleeve to a jointer. Luckily, my arm wasn’t pulled into the blades but the sleeve looked every bit as bad as those in your video.

this video ought to be included with every saw sold! we were taught to roll up sleeves, doff rings, etc in high school shop….how many woodworking websites show guys working w/ long sleeves etc???? START by keeping the blade guards on, no matter how inconvenient that is. these accidents can be truly horrifying………..STAY SAFE!

After 12 stitches, a $4000 deductible, and the pain of numerous numbing shots to my fingers (the most painful part of this accident) may I recommend one more simple rule:

Use the blade guard

Or use that money to buy a SawStop. Not many of us can afford a SawStop but I just bought one with my finger accident. So use the blade guard seriously. I put mine back on. It’s just too easy to get hurt with a table saw.

I would however, like to express my disagreement with you regarding the wearing of gloves while operating a tablesaw. If one abides by the basic safety rules, one’s hands, gloved or not, are never near enough to the blade, for the gloves to get caught in.

Regarding gloves: wearing gloves can turn an accidental nick into major reconstructive surgery spread out over several years – that is the reason I did a glove too in the video. It’s one thing to come too close with your bare hand and get cut, it quite another if the hand is inside a glove that gets caught by the blade.
Please, don’t wear gloves while using a tablesaw.
